KADAPA: Congress leaders, activists and sympathisers took out massive rallies from various parts of Kadapa and converged on the municipal stadium here for Congress party’s ‘Vijaya Sankalpa Yatra’ on Tuesday demanding that YSR Foundation chairman Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy join active politics and contest from Kadapa Parliamentary constituency.
All the Congress MPs, MLCs and MLAs in Kadapa district who participated in the meeting urged Jagan to contest from Kadapa parliamentary constituency and asserted that Congress would regain power and win from both Lok Sabha constituencies and all 10 Assembly constituencies in the district. The leaders flayed the grand alliance and Praja Rajyam leaders and accused them of trying to prevent Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy’s entry into politics by levelling baseless charges against him. Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, who furthered industrialisation and took up social service activities, should contest from Kadapa Parliamentary constituency, the speakers said.
MP’s plea to cadreKadapa MP Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, who is representing Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency, asserted that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy will contest for Assembly and his son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy will contest for Parliament. The MP called upon partymen to strive with discipline for boosting Congress prospects but not indulge in violence.
Rajampet MP A. Sai Prathap asserted that Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy would contest from Kadapa LS segment and win with an overwhelming majority. Flaying the grand alliance, he said welfare schemes being implemented by the YSR government were lauded by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Chief Ministers of several States.
Kadapa Mayor P. Ravindranath Reddy accused Opposition parties of levelling baseless charges to cause mental anguish to Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy with a bid to prevent him from contesting from Kadapa.
He maintained that Congress would win 265 Assembly seats in the State as the party has patronage of 78 per cent of voters as per surveys. All other ruling parties in the past had not more than 40 per cent votes, he said.
Unprecedented growthNo party bothered about Kadapa district, as it was the native of Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy, Proddatur MLA N. Varadarajulu Reddy said. YSR developed the State in an unprecedented manner. People like Jaganmohan Reddy should not stay away from politics, but join it and cleanse the ‘murky’ political scenario, Mydukur MLA D.L. Ravindra Reddy asserted. People would not believe Mr. Naidu’s promises as they did not forget that he scrapped the Rs. 2 a kg. rice scheme, he said.
